Frequently Asked Questions
|
Am I a good candidate for LASIK?
The ideal candidate for LASIK
is 18 years of age or older, with
stable vision and healthy eyes. Younger
patients may be candidates with appropriate
parental consent. A brief screening
can determine if your vision is within
the acceptable corrective range for
LASIK, but a thorough examination
is necessary to determine the health
of your eyes. Detailed measurements
will be gathered during this examination,
which are critical to obtaining optimum
results from LASIK.
How long does the LASIK procedure
take?
The procedure itself generally takes
less than 15 minutes for both eyes.
Upon arrival at our center, patients
are given an oral sedative and then
allowed to relax for 20-30 minutes.
The total time in the center is approximately
11/2 to 2 hours.
Is there any discomfort with the
LASIK procedure?
During the LASIK procedure, the cornea
is numbed with anesthetic eye drops.
Patients report pressure, but very
little, if any, discomfort both during
and after the procedure.

Will I need to take time off of work?
Every patient heals at a different rate, but the majority of patients
are able to drive the next morning, return to work the next day, and
resume most routine activities within a few days. |
How well can I expect to see after
the procedure?
Our goal for each patient is to achieve
a visual acuity of 20/20 or better.
How rapidly one obtains good vision
following surgery will vary with the
amount of correction and type of treatment.
Occasionally, an enhancement procedure
may be required to reach your best
visual outcome.
How long will the results last?
Your visual results should be long term, if not permanent. If there is any
nearsighted or farsighted progression or regression, this can be treated
with an enhancement procedure.
