Surgical Procedure
Anesthetic drops are used to nub the eye. An eyelid speculum is
then placed in the eye to prevent blinking during the procedure. |
A single, small incision is made in the surface of the cornea. |
The eye is prepared for Intacs placement. To stabilize your eye
and ensure proper alignment of the Intacs inserts, a centering guide
is placed on the surface of the eye. During this time, inner layers
of the cornea are gently separated I a narrow circular area to allow
for Intacs placement. |
The Intacs are gently inserted into place. After the second Intacs
has been placed, the small opening in the cornea is closed. |
The procedure is completed. |
The results of the Intacs inserts are improved vision. The newly remodeled
and reinforced cornea will have had some, or perhaps even all, of the
irregularity caused by keratoconus eliminated.
Follow-up visits will be required to monitor the healing process and evaluate
the visual benefits of the procedure. Even after a successful procedure,
glasses or contacts may still be required to provide good vision.
