    Artificial Lenses

Since intraocular lenses were first introduced in 1949 over 21 million have been surgically implanted. Traditional artificial lenses were monofocal and although distance vision was good, many patients still needed to use reading glasses to see near objects. The good for cataract patients today is that intraocular lens technology has taken a giant leap forward. No longer is the object of cataract surgery simply to restore your distance vision with a monofocal Intra Ocular Lens (IOL).

    Vision through a
    Mono-Focal Lens

    Vision through a
    Multi-Focal Lens

Today the goal is to enhance your vision with an artificial lens that may provide you with full range vision thus minimizing your dependency on glasses, including reading glasses or bifocals. This goal is now possible with the development of multifocal artificial lenses such as the ACRYSOF® ReSTOR® lens.
